Een jaar te laat / After a year of emptiness

I made this animation in 2002, as part of an academic minor program at the AKI art academy. The animation was shown at international film festivals in Rotterdam and Amiens.

'He opened the door. The world outside had changed: a layer of snow reflected the weak sun, and the trees had died. He tried not to see the bleached skeletons, but could not stop the sickening wave of memories. The voices of the perished past still echoed, and the sores developing on his hands were a sign that he would soon be part of it. He had to find her and the child, to be and die with them, after a year of emptiness...'

Technical details:
This animation was created in Maya. The color and 'feel' of the short was achieved by processing each frame in Adobe Photoshop. For this purpose, I wrote a plugin that automatically imported, processed and composed layers of animation.

Cube

In a way, this is a tribute to '2001, A space odyssey'.

Technical details:
This was the first animation I made after buying Softimage XSI, mainly to get to know the program. Rendered with Mental Ray. Uses textured lights and baked lighting on the environment to speed up rendering.

Origami crane bird

This was one of the first images I made (1999). An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. (see Wikipedia)
